When I started on the journey of themoneysavingmum.com the first ‘money making’ thing I did was a mystery shop. Not just any old mystery shop though! I mean I’ve had meals and drinks in exchange for feedback, even a free bag (or 10!) of potato croquettes but this one I got cold hard cash…. £50 of it !!
This specific research company works alongside a large banking group in arranging mystery shoppers to pay a visit to local branches of Lloyd’s, Halifax or Bank of Scotland.
You must be a customer of one of those three banks to take part and upon your ‘undercover’ visit be prepared to take out a loan, credit card or a overdraft.
In the week before your visit, they’ll send you a recording device which you are required to take into the appointment and return to them (all costs of doing so will be reimbursed) once you’ve finished.
Once they’ve receive your device you can cancel whatever you’ve taken out. It will be within a cooling off period and the cheque will be winging it’s way to you shortly after!
As I mentioned my ‘task’, a few years ago now, was to take out home insurance. The company was just on the other end of the phone to help you with the voice recorder should you need it and any other questions you may have.
It’s worth noting too that didn’t give them all the correct figures I would in my usual home insurance applications. Nor did I really need to go through my personal details other than the basics; being an existing customer they already had it all (if that’s something you would be worried about mentioning on the voice recorder).
It’s such an easy mystery shops, one of the easiest ones you will do for sure. You don’t really need to make conversation either. It’s all made for you so to speak in the questions they ask you within the application.
You do need to ensure you are eligible for the task though:
- Are you a customer of one of the three banks mentioned above?
- Are you on £16k per annum or more?
- Do you have a good credit score?
If the answer is yes to all 3 questions then just complete this form (popping in ‘kirsty themoneysavingmum’ as the recruiter) and the company will be in touch with you with what you need to do next.
If your not eligible and your circumstances change then feel free to try back another time.
Sometimes when things seem too good to be true they usually are. But honestly I have done this specific mystery shop myself and it was 100% legit and as easy as a, b, c!
Thanks so much for reading!
Disclosure: by putting the above in the recruiter box will mean I earn commission from referring yourself at no cost whatsoever to you!
