Beauty investments that are worth every penny

I’ll be honest… I’ve never been one to see beauty treatments as an investment or spent money on making me feel good until after I had children (typically when I no longer have the cash to splash!).

On one hand, I’m glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have been able to sustain it post children however in the last few years or so I have noticed even the small things such as painting my nails, putting my make up on even a new box dye on my hair make me feel so good.

Beauty Treatments That Are Worth Splurging On

We lose our identity after having children, men too(!) so whatever we can do to make us feel good if only for a short while, we should totally take advantage of (sensibly!) right?

Microblading

I recently invested in Microblading which is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to the eyebrow creating your perfect brows.

How Much Is Microblading?

It’s not the cheapest beauty treatment but then nor is it the dearest you’ll ever come across. It doesn’t work for everyone, it’s worth noting that now! That being said once they are done they are done and if you spread the cost over the 1-3 years they are said to last I’d say it’s a pretty good investment.

If they take to your existing brows as they should, the only thing you will need to do to maintain them in a top up which is around £50-80.

Both Catherine at Rock and Roll Pussy Cat and Hollie at Thrifty Mum both say, like me, that it was a game changer. Hollie said how much of a difference it made to her face during busy mornings!

Catherine said she was from the overplucked 90’s era and trying to draw on matching brows in a morning was a traumatic experience for her. Microblading has given her the confidence to get up and go now, quite often without any make up. Is completely changed her face, confidence and use of make up.

Individual eyelash extensions

Another beauty investment that makes me feel so good about myself is lash extensions.

I’ve done last extensions myself before at home with a kit but nothing beats getting them done professionally and them lasting!

I had them done for my wedding (we went abroad) and it was awesome not having to put mascara on every day and having them still looking as fresh as a daisy after a long theme park day; I loved my lashes!

Maintaining Individual eyelash extension

The only downside is that you have to continually go and get them ‘topped up’. It’s not the cheapest and where we are based in East Yorkshire you are looking at the initial application being priced around £40 and then the top up every 2 weeks at around £20.

Although it sounds costly it’s actually very similar to what so many people already pay to get their nails done though eh?

Emma at The Money Whisperer says that although Microblading never took to her skin properly she absolutely loves her lashes and couldn’t live without them. She can just get up and go without putting any make up on!

Fake tan

Fake tan is another beauty treatment that also makes me feel good about myself (when I can be bothered to do it!) and it’s cheap too! It really brightens your skin, lifts your mood and gets you ready for summer. In addition to last extensions, Emma at The Mini Me’s and Me also says that fake tan makes her feel better about her appearance every single day.

Teeth whitening

Emma is also currently looking at teeth whitening due to the confidence white teeth brings to so many.

Teeth whitening can be as costly or as cheap as you want it to be. That’s not due to buying ‘dodgy’ whitening kits off eBay’ but more due to the fact you don’t have to do it every day.

To be fair it’s not recommended you continually use whitening kits or gels however Crest strips I’ve brought back from the states are pretty good and cheap to do any time you want to just brighten them up a bit.

Professional whitening at a dentist is VERY costly but you are going to see the results pretty quick.

I have a home whitening kit with gel and the LED light which was around £60 and of which I can just buy top up gels if I ever want to do it again or it runs out.

Anti aging treatment

This is something I NEED to invest in but I find it really difficult to know which one is best, which one is worth the investment and which one I need for my skin!

Nikki at Spinning Plates suggest that mums should invest in a great Retinol Serum as young as they can. At 49, she says to start low and see if your skin adjusts to it and work up.

Not only does it reduce age spots it stimulates new cells. It’s giving back to your skin what ageing loses. To keep you skin looking amazing start earlier, don’t leave it too late!

Jaw enhancement and botox

Another beauty treatment I’m loving at the minute is jaw enhancement. This is a filler that emphasises your jawline but, besides the fact it is really expensive and maybe shouldn’t even be in here to be fair, I feel a little more wary about injecting something beneath my skin which leads me to what Chantelle at All Things Christmas had to say about her must have beauty treatment.

Chantelle says she has had a single-site (between eyebrows) Botox done three times in the last year, and loves it.

She says Botox is totally worth every penny and that whenever she was reading, texting or had any sort of expression on her faced and looked angry because of the frown lines. Now, she says she is not scowling at everything!

There’s such a stigma with Botox and she wishes more people knew not everyone gets ‘frozen face’. She loves that her new look is just a less p*ssed-off version of herself! 🙂

Have you had a beauty treatment that you wish you had have had sooner rather than later or that cost a bit initially but you feel has been worth every penny?

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
