What to Expect

Your friends, family or co-workers could react negatively to your challenge or be unsupportive in a number of ways. Some may put down the idea, believing it’s not a worthwhile pursuit, a silly exercise or that you’re just wasting your time.

There may be people who will try to deter you from your goals by inviting you out for drinks or to go shopping when they know you’re trying not to spend money. Others may not even want to spend time with you because they wish to take part in only activities that require money!

Reasons for Negativity

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about unsupportive people beyond explaining why this challenge is important to you and asking that they understand that.

There are a number of underlying reasons friends and family might not be enthusiastic about your new goals. People may be intimidated by your desire to save money!

They could be jealous or it could cause them to question their own spending habits. They may even be afraid you won’t want to spend time with them anymore. Sometimes people are threatened by the goals and success of others or maybe they don’t like change. There are many. reasons some might not be as supportive as others… it might just be that they don’t particularly want to give up their shopping buddy or bar pal!

What to Do

The ultimate decision on how you wish to interact with such individuals is entirely up to you. No one can tell you what to do but just know you don’t have to put up with someone who is unsupportive of you. It’s within your rights to walk away from such relationships but if you don’t wish to take such drastic measures, you may at least want to let them know how you feel about their behaviour.

In the meantime, look to supportive friends to help you enjoy some no-spend fun. Rely on the people who consistently have your back and reach out to them when the going gets tough. In today’s connected world, you can even find support and information online too. Virtual networks and groups are a great way to talk to people who understand your motivations and who can help you find balance.

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
