Must see family films this autumn & how to save money at the cinema

We love going to the cinema; although costly it just feels a lot more relaxed watching a film somewhere other than your front room with 3 dogs, a washer, dishwasher and people walking past your front window every 5 seconds! I’m here to share with you today my top 5 must see family films this autumn… oh and of course how to save money at the cinema!

Must-see family films this autumn & how to save money at the cinema

Johnny English Strikes Again

We saw the preview for this at the showing of Incredibles 2 and it looked typical Johnny English style (or should I say Mr Bean as the kids called him!).

The House with a Clock in it’s Walls

I’ve seen this preview a few times at the cinema, as have the children. The first time we saw it, I’m not going to lie, the kids were scared stiff!! The story itself doesn’t look scary but obviously the trailer is edited to show good bits and it’s very jumpy! That said it looks like it will be a really cool film; reminded me off the Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy but based on a 1973 book of the same name.

Fantastic Beasts; The Crimes of Grindelwald

The second instalment of the Fantastic Beasts series set in JK Rowlings ‘Wizarding World’. I’m going to admit to never seeing any of the Harry Potter films so I’m not sure this will be my kind of film but I’ve no doubt if you are into HP and Rowling you are going to love this!

Spider-Man; Into the Spider-Verse

This looks like a pretty cool film! The kids are going to love it! It’s an animation and is released on the run up to Christmas.

Mary Poppins Returns

I cannot wait for this film! A now grown Jane and Michael Banks are visited again by the beautiful Mary Poppins (this time played by Emily Blunt). Again released just in time for Christmas it will make a lovely ‘in between Christmas and New Year’ trip to the Cinema.

Money saving tips

We get free cinema tickets every week (if we get our steps in!) from our Vitality life insurance. We have to get x-amount of points per week to unlock our cinema tickets. If we don’t then we don’t go to the cinema; simple as that because it’s super expensive!!

In addition to sharing with you my top 5 must see family films I’m also sharing with you ways to avoid paying full price for your tickets;

Customers of comparethemarket can get 2 for 1 tickets Tuesday and Wednesday for a whole year using MEERKAT MOVIES.

Cheapest way to take full advantage of this is head on over to comparethemarket and grab a travel insurance quote for a 3 night trip to France next week!  Buy the policy (my quote came through for as little as £2.28!) and you’ll get 2 for 1 MEERKAT MOVIES and MEERKAT MEALS for a whole year!

Odeon

DO NOT pre order your tickets online. Ordering your ticket online from Odeon will cost you nearly 75p more than paying just £4.00 when you get to the cinema.

Unlimited cinema and 10% off snacks and drinks £17.99/month (min 12 month term)

Cineworld

Get up to a massive 50% discount by showing your NUS/TOTUM card at Cineworld.

Unlimited cinema and 10% off snacks and drinks £17.90/month (min 12 month term)

Vue

DO NOT pre order your tickets online. Ordering your ticket online via Vue will cost you nearly £1pp more than paying just £4.99 when you get to the cinema.

Mini-mornings at Vue are £2.49 for both children AND adults. There are showings every Saturday morning from 10am and everyday in the school holidays.

Reel

Kids Club at Reel; every weekend morning and weekdays during the school holidays you can get entry for just £2 (2d film) or £3 (3d film).

Senior club Tuesday: £4.50

Last but by all means not least; do NOT buy your snacks from the cinema. If you are planning to go then be sure to pick up something from your weekly shop otherwise nip into Superdrug or another similar store on the way!

if you get to the cinema this autumn I’d love to hear what you thought of whichever film you chose to watch… drop me a comment down below!

And if you feel this is of value to you or a friend then click that share button and send it over to them!  Prices and everything quote is correct at the time of upload.  Feel free to check out websites (linked within this post) for up to date prices and offers.

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
