The last of #5frugalthings…

I’ve absolutely loved joining in with the 5 frugal things linky these past 3 months or so but it occurred to me before I went away that it’s probably not doing for me what I need it to do for me.

Majority of my posts were about me spending money; granted saving as I went but ultimately spending money. To me that wasn’t very frugal and is why I’m throwing in the towel. Today’s post is going to be a not so 5 frugal things!

I’ve struggled massively these past few weeks mentally specifically since returning from our holidays & I’ve felt pretty shit to be honest. The worse I have felt for a very long long time. I don’t know if it’s PMT, jet lag, stress or just holiday blues (I personally think it’s all of those rolled into one!) but I’ve been really snappy, far from engaging and have taken a step back from social media because every little thing was annoying me!

Not that that really has anything to do with the quitting of the linky, just wanted to tell you why I have been a bit reserved and quiet; it’s allowed me to put things into perspective. I know it’s not Friday, the day we usually share the linky, but I didn’t particularly want to wait until then why I’ve chosen to not continue with the 5 frugal things.

I started this blog for me.

No one else but me; a way to make myself accountable to save money. I found myself buying things I didn’t really need because they were a bargain and so I could share it on my 5 frugal things post…. so far from the original reason I set up my blog. Not only that but I don’t have the money to do that either and was just totally defeating the object of being Themoneysavingmum.com

I may well find a different linky to join so some new posts may be imminent; but I will make sure it’s something I don’t feel the need I HAVE to source products for, produce and write for other people.

Thanks so much for reading this and all my other frugal things post and of course thanks to the original ladies who created this linky…. the lovely Lynn at MrsMummyPenny, Cass from Frugal Family, Emma from Mumssavvysavings & Becky from family-budgeting… it’s genuinely helped me in ways I really can’t explain and for that I am ever so greatful!

Oh Kirsty – I often share 5 thrifty things I have said or ideas I have about no spend play etc rather than just frugal things I’ve bought. We are happy for you to share any money saving ideas with usxxxx

Aw lovely, we’ve loved having you.

I think it’s very easy to focus on something and then start to tailor what you do to fit in with that – I was the same when I went through a bit of a stats-obsessed phase. Everything I did for a while was done for the purpose of getting better stats and that’s when I started to get bored with blogging. I made a decision to ignore all things stats and haven’t looked back since so I completely get what you mean. 😉

Saying that though, we’d love to hear what you do get up to – your five frugal things could totally include things as simple as meal planning or line drying your washing. Do come back every now and again and let us know what you’re up to x x

Ah thanks Cass… I appreciate it! It’s gotten me right into the consistency which i’m so thankful for but yeah soon realised I wasn’t necessarily being me!

Kirsty, guess what? I totally get what you mean in terms of the snappy mood and down feeling! For some reason, today I woke and found myself this way! In fact, I did shed a tear and when I thought about it, I couldn’t really place my finger on what one thing has caused it! I think it’s a combination of things. But I’m trying to snap out of it, telling myself that things will get better and I will get over it.
As for the linky, I do hope you reconsider. I’ve been participating for a while and what I do is to jot things I do if I think it’s particularly frugal (especially if the idea can help someone else). Some weeks I really struggle to think of five things I’ve done (this week’s post was the perfect example) and when I can’t think of 5, I just don’t do a post that week. I still read the others’ posts because I find them so inspirational and gives me ideas about things I can do, apps I can use, etc.
Sending you virtual hugs for a great week ahead.

Totally a combination… especially when PMT is concerned aaaaaah! I probably will to be fair because its given me the consistency but will just need to mentally realise who i’m doing it for. I agree it 100% does help so many other people… the linky is fab! You don’t realise who you reach do you just sharing your thoughts, opinions and ways of life with and how much we relate to others. Thanks girls I appreciate it 🙂

    About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
