Staying motivated when trying something new can be tough… I am easily influenced by people around me and because our brain isn’t used to this activity, it may take you a great deal of repetition and reinforcement to make it feel more natural. It’s totally normal… there are bound to be times when you’re ready to quit the no buy challenge but that’s why you should have some strategies in place to help you deal with such temptation. Check out these ideas for staying motivated throughout your challenge of not spending any money!

Stay Motivated to Not Spend!

Remember Your Why

The initial reasons that prompted you to take on this challenge are important to keep in mind when the going gets rough. Why did you want to do this? What is your goal? If you reach your goal what will it allow you to do? Your motivation for wanting to save money is your “why.” Write down your why and keep it with you as a visual reminder of the importance of sticking to your goals.

Create Milestones

Milestones are checkpoints along the way toward completion of a larger goal.

They allow you to take stop and take stock of how far you’ve come. It gives you time to recognise and celebrate your wins as well as also helping you to break down a goal into smaller chunks to make it seem less intimidating.

Choosing a particular amount to save during a specific timeframe and setting targets within for that main goal will help you see your achievements before you eyes.

Give Yourself Rewards

Rewards and celebrations are fantastic motivators and having targets within targets help as I’ve already touched on. The good thing is the reward don’t have to cost a dime!

Create a reward that will motivate you to work toward meeting your milestone goals. That way you’ll have something to work toward and get excited about each time you’re tempted to cheat.

Get Creative

Creativity can help you to stay on track with your goals. The method doesn’t matter as much as the inspiration. Some people choose to write in a journal as a way to keep themselves accountable, inspired and on track whereas some have a printable. A collage or a vision board will make your savings goals more real to you too. Whatever works for you use!

Make It Fun

A challenge doesn’t have to deprive you.. just know that as i’ve mentioned numerous times previously. Change your mindset and look at the challenge as fun. Make it your aim to see how many free activities you can come up with to fill the time and enlist your not so negative friends to help!

Create silly rewards for meeting your milestones and plan a party for the completion of your no-spend challenge. There are lots of ways to view this experience in a positive light, which will help motivate you to keep going.

Keep these simple tips in mind when you feel like giving up. Staying motivated is half the battle when it comes to not spending money but I hope these tricks will help keep you somewhat on track. No one said not spending money was going to be easy!

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
