Baby’s First Halloween Costume Ideas

A baby’s first Halloween costume isn’t for the child at all! It’s 100% for Mum and Dad! Which, by the way, is absolutely OK! I’ve been there… I get it! You’re excited and you want your son or daughter to look super cute & all dressed up for their first Halloween so do it!

There are some really REALLY cute newborn Halloween costumes for your baby’s first Halloween especially if your little one is just a few months old, but there’s no getting away from the fact you will find even more choices if your child is 12 months or older by October.

NewBorn Halloween Costumes

Many of the first costumes for small non-moving babies will be in the form of romper suits or all in ones with pumpkins or if this years ‘in thing’ is anything to go by… what’s the odd’s that the majority of stores will have something related to baby shark!

Baby Boy Halloween Costumes

For boy babies, you may have thought about going down the Superhero route but you might struggle as capes around the neck isn’t the most sensible option for small babies. A jumpsuit or vest would work better unless they are walking. If you do decide to get something that means their head is covered or they could pull something around their necks ensure you are supervising them at all times.

Why not look for pumpkin designs, Jack Skellington, vampires or a skeleton. There are so many cool romper style options available for boys under the age of 1 here are just a few that I found this year from George at Asda but there is certainly nothing stopping you making your own if you have a dab hand at a sewing machine!

Baby Girl Halloween Costumes

If your little one is a girl and not yet moving a little mermaid costume would be perfect! The mermaid tail is ideal for a baby that is not yet crawling.

I found there were a lot more options for baby boys than there were girls when my two were younger. Rather than halloween designs you tend to find for girls that they bring out the regular fancy dress options than specifically halloween related designs such as Disney’s Tinkerbell (which was actually one of my youngest first fancy dress outfit) or Minnie Mouse. There are again from George at Asda.

If your baby is a bit older than newborn on his or her first Halloween, then you might want to choose a costume with legs instead of impractical mermaid tails! There are plenty of boy and girl costumes with tops and bottoms that make nappy changes a breeze and allows them to crawl around without being restricted too.

As I’ve already touched on when I mentioned about the cape, at this age, it’s probably wise to find your babys first Halloween costume doesn’t have face masks, accessories or have tons of material. They will have plenty of time to wear all that as they get older because once they hit the year old mark you’ll probably find tons more on offer compared to now when they are a baby.

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
