Crafts You Can Make And Sell With A Sewing Machine

I used to LOVE sewing in school. It was for sure one of my favourite design and technology lessons. If you are looking to make a little bit of money and you can sew, you’re in luck because you can make so many easy to make products with your sewing machine. Since the items are handmade, it will be something even more special and meaningful that your customers can give their loved ones. Here are a few easy sewing projects that can make you some money at craft fairs, on Etsy or even that you can also just give as uncommon gifts too!

Sewing Projects TO Sell AT CRAFT FAIRS

Quilts & Blankets

Making a blanket is probably the easiest sewing project you could sell and an that you can make for almost anyone. You can make it even more special by using special materials that the customer provides for you. For example, they can use some of their child’s old clothing as the fabric which is something I want to do with the umpteen vac-bags of baby clothes we still have (my eldest is 8 by the way!). Alternatively, you can have fabric made with pictures that people have taken. This will create a very special blanket for someone from one of your customers.

Phone / Kindle / Tablet Case

This is a fun sewing idea to make that doesn’t require tons of skill. If you can do a basic stitch, you can 100% make a case for your mobile device. Be sure to find out what type of device the person you are making it for has so you can get the size right too. To make your sewing pattern, you can use the device to get the right size. Don’t forget to add pockets too it to give them a place to store things like screen pen tools.

Zipper or Draw String Pouches

Everyone loves little pouches to help organize their stuff like makeup, pens, colouring supplies and so forth. Making a zipped pouch for people to keep in their purse, bag or pocket is a great sewing product idea because they are fast to make, and you can fill them with multiple items.

Fabric Bins

You can make beautiful fabric bins to help organize any room in any house. Offering them as products is a great way for your customers to help their family and friends get more organized around the house. Tell them to look at their family and friends decor when they are next visiting and choose a colour from it so that they will want to put them out around their home!

Pillows

Making pillows is also a great sewing idea to sell and is a super easy to do craft! Your pillows can have a funny or sentimental saying on them too! You can turn it into something of sentimental value by using a loved one’s shirt which I think is such a lovely gesture or you can paint on your pillow using ink that is designed for the fabric to make any design you want! You could even let the kids go crazy on a blank one!

Aprons

Everyone loves a well-designed and cute apron (especially grandparents!). In addition, they are easy to sew and even easier to sell especially if it’s personalised. You really don’t even need a pattern. Just cut out the shape you want it to be, hem it, add a pocket on the front, sew on a tie or side fasteners and you’re all done.

Making meaningful products means that your customers can choose something they know the recipient will love. Like choosing colours they’ll love, sayings or quotes they know they’d enjoy, as well as it being the type of product they’d really want to use every single day. They will feel as if the gift that person gave to them really means something; these easy sewing projects are a great start to make a memorable uncommon gifts.

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
