I’ve been nominated to do “the bedtime tag” by my fellow Hull blogger The Hull of a Mum 🙂 would be great if you could join in too! I love doing these and should really make more time for them as I find them really therapeutic to let off some steam (hence the length!)…
1. Describe your usual bedtime routine.
My bedtime starts from the moment my kids go to bed; although we don’t go to bed immediately it bloody well takes that long so both mine and theirs end up flowing into one big one!
Every night it starts with Alex asking Zac: ‘have you been for a poo’, ‘yes I went for one when I got in from school’ ‘er no you didn’t now go for a poo’ ‘muuum I went for a poo when I got in from school didn’t I’ ‘just go try’ ‘no I’ve had one’ ‘no Zac you haven’t now go for a god damn poo!!’ so both me and Alex are already ready for our bed before we have even gotten the kids in theirs!!
Once they are in bed, unless I have some editing to do which is taking my evenings up at the minute as I’m doing vlogtober, I do nothing!! Ok I tell a lie, I lay on the settee, with absolutely no desire to do what I am meant to be doing when the kids are asleep i.e. cleaning up, doing the pots etc (well loading dishwasher!) I seriously have no energy left in me come 7pm! As long as I get to watch my Hollyoaks I’m happy and even that’s difficult with ‘muuuum, I need to tell you a question’ ‘for the love of god Zac it’s ASK you a question’ ‘nooo I need to tell YOU a question’ shouting down the stairs every 5 minutes between the hours of 7pm and 8 !!
We tend to start making a move for bed at 9am; Alex let’s the dogs out, makes drinks and heads upstairs. Nine times out of ten I am still laid on the sofa with absolutely no desire to move!
When I do eventually go upstairs we do what probably do many of our generation do aaaaaand sit on our phones not speaking for an hour and drift off between 10-10.30.
2. What are your favourite pyjamas?
I LOVE pj’s !! I have to admit though to very rarely matching… but I could live in pyjamas alllll day! If I was to answer my front door to you chances are I would be in at least my PJ bottoms!
3. What is your current bedtime reading?
I don’t read. I’ve never read any books before – i tell a lie I got to the first chapter of the first Harry Potter! I wish I could but I can’t switch off or get engrossed in a book. Closest you will get me to a book though are your Heat and Closer magazines but even then I don’t read them in bed!
4. What would I find on your bedside table?
Junk! Literally a dumping ground. Mine is the table you walk past as you walk in the door so everyone dumps stuff on it but at the minute there’s a couple of Me to You soft toys, a drink, a screwdriver (👆🏻 see what I mean by junk!), a candle, a handbag, my old fitbit and about 100 hair bobbles!
5. What scent makes you sleepy?
Nothing really to be honest – I am quite sensitive to smell and I have to really like it but then don’t like trying new things (go figure!). I would love to have a soak in the bath with lavender (that’s prob my fave scent but doesn’t tire me out – being a working mum does that to me!) but we have a really short bath and a freezing cold bathroom so I always shower.
6. What is your usual bedtime and wake-up time?
I’d say Anytime from 9 onwards but would probably not fall asleep until gone 10. Wake up time at the minute is 6:45 by harper, the dogs by 7:15 and Zac by 7:30.
7. What are your top three bedtime products?
Baby wipes, SoSmile teeth whitening that I’ve been doing for 30 minutes each time I get in bed for about 10 days oh and my phone 🙈 !
8. What is your most common sleeping position?
I get sleepy on my back, then roll over on to my side half and half on my stomach and side. Feel like I am stuck when I sleep on my front sometimes as my back absolutely kills from I think the epidural I had with my first born when I try to get up.
9. Do you have anything you like to take to bed with you?
My nearly 30 year old Bugsy! Harper now has a rabbit we have named Bugsy too but yes my Bugsy still sleeps with me in my bed 🙂
10. What is your worst bedtime habit?
I agree Kerry; taking my phone to bed! It’s bad! But when you are relaxed, comfy and there are no kids around I can get work done!
Well that’s my Tag done, I’m going to tag another three people to complete it, so I’m nominating;
Donnetta and/or David at DadvWorld.com
Rebecca at Meadow Daisy
Charlotte at Mummy Fever
