Which Butlin’s accommodation should you choose?

We are just back from a fab weekend at Butlin’s Skegness. Last year we chose one of the cheapest value rooms to stay in however this time we chose to stay in a moderate room and decided on a Butlin’s Seaside Apartment just a short walk from the beach. But which Butlin’s accommodation should YOU choose on your next trip…? Keep reading to find out more about both the Silver room and the Seaside apartment and which one we would choose to stay in next time.

Butlin’s accommodation options

Cheapest most basic accommodation

The two room choices in the basic category of Butlin’s accommodation are exactly that… extremely basic!

We stayed in a Butlin’s Silver Room last time and were actually very disappointed. We didn’t go for the most basic which is the standard room and although I wasn’t expecting the earth given it was the second to cheapest option; I did expect them to be a cleaner.

The building itself didn’t look like it had had a lick of paint since the 1960’s and the flooring near the stairs was lifting and to be fair it was quite dangerous. Rickety wooden stairs took us up to our very basic room which was ideal if you had no intention of staying there barring sleeping but to be fair the beds were very uncomfortable.

Again, this is the second cheapest room type at Butlin’s and like I said I didn’t and still don’t expect the Ritz; but just a lick of paint would’ve made it feel so much better. I would be interested to know if they were on the list and due a renovation not long after we stayed and whether or not since our visit they’ve had that lick of paint, their windows washed or just given a bit of care and attention that they were just crying out for!

We were located in Starfish Quay which is not far from the South entrance and the car park you first come to when you check in. You will get a better feel of the room and the location of the room in our day 1 vlog of the 2018 Rhinos Challenge:

Butlin’s value accommodation options

The next category of Butlin’s accommodation is the value option.

They too have the standard and silver but they also have a New Style Apartment which is located not far from the Seaside apartments we were in this year.

Again they don’t look that appealing from the outside but if you want space, aren’t too fussed about decor (it’s still very basic) and are looking for a full kitchen then the Butlin’s new style apartment is the one for you.

Unlike the Seaside Apartment, there is no balcony though so bare that in mind it’s not an apartment as you may think with a balcony/french doors etc.

Butlin’s moderate accommodation options

This is the category of which the apartment we most recently stayed in is a part of. The moderate ‘camp’ includes Butlin’s Gold Apartments, Fairground Apartments, and the Seaside Apartments.

The Gold Apartments are probably the room style we will next stay in. I really liked the location of them at specifically the Skegness resort and they looked really appealing from the outside.

They don’t seem as basic as the standard or silver but aren’t as ‘fancy’ as the Seaside or Fairground. The Butlin’s Seaside Apartment we stayed in this year was really beautiful but unless you desperately want a balcony I wouldn’t hesitate to save a few pennies and booking a Fairground or Gold in the future.

You can’t choose where you are located either so although we did have a balcony it was never actually in the sun so bringing the chair out on the grass nearby was the closest we got to relax in the sun!

Other Butlin’s accommodation options

There are a few more room options of which are available however it’s worth noting that I have no experience of any other property than the ones above that are located at Skegness. I am also not sure if the basic in Skegness, for example, are more dated than those in Bognor Regis. My experience is based on our visit to Skegness only. Maybe one day we will head to one of the other resorts which would allow me to compare them all as a whole.

Accommodation at Bognor Regis

Bognor Regis accommodation includes all of the above but have a lot more in the moderate category aswell as a premium category too.

They have Shoreline hotel rooms which are another style of room that is beautifully decorated and is perfect for those with tots given it’s close proximity to the beach.

As well as Wave hotel rooms for those with older children, Deluxe Suites and Deluxe Lodges.

Premium accommodation

Premium accommodation at Bognor Regis include Wave Hotel apartments and the beautiful Ocean Hotel rooms that have their own terrace/balcony that potentially overlook the sea!

Accommodation at Minehead

Minehead offer an additional Value room in the form of a Bungalow as well as a Deluxe suite in their moderate category and like Bognor Regis they too have Premium accommodation in the form of Lodges, chalets and Bayside Apartments.

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
