We regularly have no spend weekends but rather than doing it for the reason of saving I tend to do it because more often than not I have the kids on my own and I’ll do whatever I can to avoid traipsing two under 8’s around shops unless absolutely necessary!

So whether you are doing a no spend challenge or just wanting to keep the children occupied on the cheap… here is a list of 20 activities for your next no spend weekend with kids in tow!

Activities for a no spend weekend with Children

De-clutter and sell

De-clutter; stick it on eBay or a local selling Facebook sites and make some money while you’re at it too!

Get outdoors

Go to the park.

Have a picnic!

You don’t need to go somewhere to have a picnic have one in your garden or even living room!

Get on your bike

Get the kids bike/scooters out (they love that!) but even if it’s just a walk around the block … it’s fresh air (and free!).

Family exercise

My kids love trying to do FREE YouTube exercises with me (& it’s hilarious!!) you could also do the local Junior Park Run too!

Catch up on homework

Or read a book!

Put on a concert!

I used to love doing these as a kid and used to do them all the time with my friends in the garden. Ask the kids to work together to put a show together for you!

Make a den!

The kids love to do this too!  I used to borrow my Grandmas clothes horse and cover it with sheets and towels… they could even have their picnic in there!

Visit the museums

A lot, if not all, museum are free; a lot of towns offer free parking and under 5’s travel free on buses and trains too so bare that in mind if you have to travel.

Go to the coast!

Go to the beach (obviously depending on where the nearest beach is to you!)

Make plans for the next week

Plan next weeks clothing, meals etc. Make sure the kids school clothes, school bags etc are all sorted for the up and coming week over the weekend too.

Watch a film!

Get the kids to choose a film each and just have a duvet day!

Do some gardening

Play/sit in the garden or do some gardening! See how many bugs the kids can find! 😉

Junk modeling

Do crafts or junk modeling from thnigs that are just going to go in the bin!

Meal plan

Organise your fridge/freezer/cupboards and meal plan for the following week.

Cook with the kids

Obviously, don’t go out buying anything new but once you’ve organised your cupboards batch cook and freeze!

Wash the car

Get the kids to clean the inside or if you can’t wash it declutter it!

Make an obstacle course!

My kids LOVE making Wipeout courses in the garden and it keeps them both happy for ages !!

Visit a pet shop

We regularly pop into Pets at Home (can take the dogs too!) as the kids love looking at the fishes, rabbits and guinea pigs!

Paint your nails!

Paint yours/the kids nails or get your children to do YOUR make up… it’s so funny just maybe don’t give them your best stuff !

About

I’m Kirsty.  A mother of two (three if you include the hubby!) and I created this blog back in 2016 as a way to make myself accountable for the savings I had to make myself to my day to life after reducing my hours at work.

Childcare costs would’ve meant I was pretty much working for nothing and we refused to pay it!

It is now my mission to help other Mum’s find ways of doing the same & show that you can live within your means without feeling deprived.  The blog will provide you with ways you can make some extra money online, share frugal living tips you can take away and use yourself and encourage you to manage your money correctly!

Luxury doesn’t have to mean buying a Chanel bag or having a Ferrari on your drive but if you budget well, watch your spends, make the right decisions then you just never know… by cutting down or saving on just one element from your life may open other doors to things that you’ve only ever dreamt about!
